The Concept of 'Digital Native'.

The term 'Digital Native' was coined by Mark Prensky in 2001 to describe the generation of people who grew up in the era of massively evolving Science and Technology. As we deal with technology in every walk of our life, it affects us in our learning outcomes as well. The uprising areas of Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, Artificial Intelligence etc. all have started gaining momentum in the upcoming decades. With such a pace in mind, the technology-saturated world has transformed the young generation as 'Digital Natives'.

Some of the learning habits that demarcate them from the rest of the population are-
  • Short Attention Span (6-8 mins)
  • Prefer Short Bite-Sized Content
  • Lookup and Access Content Differently
  • Prefer Rich, Engaging, Multimedia
  • Love to learn On-the-Go, Anytime, Anywhere, on Mobile Device

Blended Learning

Blended Learning is defined as a formal education programme that's made up of in-person classroom time as well as individual study online using e-learning software.

Blended Learning methods offer the best of classroom and online learning all in one place. It requires the physical presence of both teacher and student, with some elements of student control over time place, path, or pace. Each student has a range of different strengths and requirements and a blended learning approach allows to acknowledge this. It is a type of multichannel method that incorporated tutor-led activities, images, video, digital tasks and face-to-face discussion.

The Video posted next shows a critical understanding of Blended Learning in the context of the current education system of India.

Augmented Reality (AR) and its impact on Education

"Human immersion in a synthetic world".

Augmented Reality (AR) is a technology that works through a device that films the real-world and inverts live virtual objects, animations, text, data or sounds that the user views from the screen of a computer, a smartphone, a tablet, a pair of glasses, a headset or any other on-screen display system.

Until 1999, Augmented Reality was confined to scientific research labs. Equipment was expensive and software complicated enough to make the normal user unable to deal with such a technology. But now this technology has been developed for the ease of the education system and business management as well.

Augmented Reality provides numerous educational benefits, for the students, these benefits can be summarized as courses being fun, reducing cognitive load, increased in motivation and interest towards the course, increased opportunity to ask questions, increase in introduction between students, new opportunities for individual learning, concretizing abstract concepts, the rise of success. As for teachers, these benefits consist of contributions to the developmental creativity in students, ensuring effective participation of students to the course, students being able to carry out the course with their own pace.

The YouTube video posted earlier shows a clear picture of the same.

Virtual Reality (VR) and its impact on Education

Virtual Reality (VR) is a technology that allows us to immerse ourselves in an artificial world, this world can be the entirely imaginary universe or only the reproduction of the real world. the experience can be visual, auditory and at the same time also haptic.

Virtual Reality (VR) usage in education and learning is related in part to the fact that this technology can improve and facilitate learning, increase memory capacity and make better decisions while working in entertaining and stimulating conditions. The learner feels more engaged, more motivated and more receptive and ready to learn and communicate with others. Virtual Reality (VR) will not only transform the way we entertain ourselves, but it will also completely change the way students learn in and out of the classroom.

This YouTube Link (shared as the next post) will show us the real picture of Virtual Reality and its usage in education.
